Context
Hoke is employed as chauffeur to Daisy Wertham by her son, Boolie. Although Daisy did not originally want him to work for her, she has come to rely on Hoke and respects him. Several years into his contract, Hoke comes to see Boolie on his day off. Hoke tells him that he is being poached by the wife of Boolie’s cousin.
